Effective April 22 , 2010 : By order of the Federal Government :
All Home Improvement Contractors must be certified by the :
Environmental Protection Agency . 

Certified firms have the knowledge and training necessary to prevent lead contamination of the home through the use of safe work practices where lead paint may be disturbed . The Federal law has been implemented in order to reduce the risk of  health hazards to adults and children. Children are most vulnerable to the potential hazards .

Make sure all potential contractors produce their EPA Certification number for you on all proposals and contracts. 

These hazards include but are not limited to :
Lead poisoning 
Damage to the brain and central nervous system
Decreased intelligence and learning difficulties
Kidney damage
Damage to a fetus
   High blood pressure
